How to Show Time Management Skills on Your Resume

By Sydney Bonner - May 20th, 2024
Resume Tips

With only so many hours in a work week, time management can be a challenge. Using work hours to your advantage is critical to achieving success. Employers want to know you’re a team player who can keep up with the demands of the role. By showing your time management skills on your resume, you’ll be one step closer to getting hired.

Showing Time Management Skills on Your Resume

While you may be more established in your career, don’t underestimate the value of showcasing ways you’ve implemented time management throughout your resume. Each section provides an opportunity to pepper in keywords relating to time management.

Examples of Time Management Skills

  • Prioritization
  • Planning
  • Time Blocking
  • Delegation
  • Organization
  • Goal Setting
  • Deadline Management
  • Communication

Highlighting Time Management in Your Profile Section

This section of your resume is a quick way to get the recruiter’s attention as this is where they traditionally read first. Add context to your summary or objective section with keywords around time management. For example:

Product Manager and problem solver with the ability to propose cost-effective solutions and on-time product delivery. Leverages planning, time blocking, and delegation in daily tasks.

How to Include This Skill in Your Professional Experience

Get ready to tell a story about time management as this section is ideal for going deeper into detail by quantifying your outcomes. Remember, more show and less tell! Show the employer how time management pertains to your daily responsibilities, for example:

Product Manager | 2017–2019

Wavewood Inc. | Brooks, Alberta

  • Averaged 14% under budget, completing projects within deadlines on 19 items
  • Assisted with the reorganization of the product development procedure to achieve all deadlines for crucial projects
  • Maintained the team's schedules across three high-priority launches, completing all deliverables ahead of their due dates
  • Managed the Bend Training project for three years and reduced lead times by 19%

Adding Time Management in Your Skills Section

Another way to highlight your strengths on your resume is to list time management skills like prioritization or time-saving apps like Toggl. Intermix and mingle your skills together in a list like this, for example, if you were a Sales Manager:

Skills

  • Prioritization
  • Toggl
  • Mentorship
  • Product Knowledge
  • Communication
  • Deal Strategy

Other Opportunities to Highlight Time Management

While the Education section may not be the most effective place to list time management, you could talk about your time management skills and how they’ve helped you advance in your career. A cover letter is another opportunity to segway into your experience with time management.

In Summary

Given this list, there are several ways to incorporate time management into your resume. Don’t underestimate the power of adding keywords and statistics around this skill as employers are looking to hire candidates who can work efficiently and deliver tasks on time.
