Estimating Manager

Position Overview
The Estimating Manager will oversee the estimating department, ensuring accurate and timely estimates for construction projects. The role involves coordinating with various teams to gather necessary information, analyze project requirements, and prepare comprehensive proposals that align with company standards and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage estimators and assistant estimators
  • Determine initial production rates
  • Interpreting engineering drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
  • Reviewing bids from vendors or contractors to ensure they are fair and reasonable
  • Coordinating with other managers to ensure schedules are met and projects are completed
  • Reviewing progress on projects and adjusting schedules as needed
  • Estimating materials costs and labor hours needed to complete projects
  • Managing a team of employees to ensure that work is performed efficiently and effectively
  • Ensuring that contractors meet safety standards and comply with local regulations
  • Reviewing finished products to ensure that they meet quality standards
  • Keeping records of all project details and documentation such as contracts, bids
  • Develop initial resource requirements.
  • Solicit material and subcontractor pricing
  • Establish preliminary project schedules

Qualifications

  • Educational and experience requirements include: 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations technical training and/or related experience. 10 years estimating, cost control, and/or engineering experience (at least 4 years estimating experience) in similar facility construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of company procedure, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts required.
  • Proven experience in estimating within the construction industry, preferably in a managerial role.
  • Strong proficiency in Primavera and HeavyBid software.
  • Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts, plus ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort essential.
  • Excellent understanding of project management principles and practices.
  • Solid knowledge of budgeting, risk analysis, and construction management processes.
  • Experience in contract negotiation and procurement.
  • Ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and apply value engineering techniques.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software tools.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and lead a team effectively.
